
On Tuesday, April 15, the College of Social Sciences at KIMEP University is going to host Professor Érick Duchesne, a visiting professor from Laval University, Canada, and a distinguished expert in international political economy, for a guest lecture titled "When Superpowers Go Rogue: Trump, Tariffs, and the Trade Order".
In this talk, Professor Duchesne will explore the disruptions in the global trade order triggered by the Trump administration’s tariff policies and what they reveal about the strategic behavior of global powers. Drawing on his extensive research and scholarly experience in international trade and political economy, the lecture promises timely insights into the evolving dynamics of economic diplomacy and global governance.

About The Speaker

Érick Duchesne holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Michigan State University. He served as President of the Québec Political Science Association (SQSP) in 2022–2023, and has been Chair of the Department of Political Science at Université Laval on two occasions (2016–2019 and 2023–2024). From 2006 to 2008, he also served as editor of the journal Politique et Sociétés.
Before joining Université Laval in 2004, he taught for six years at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo). Since the beginning of his career, he has supervised nearly 150 graduate students.
A specialist in international political economy, he is the author of more than fifty publications focusing notably on international economic negotiations, U.S. trade policy, agri-food policies, and programs of the World Bank Group. He has also undertaken research stays at a dozen universities around the world, including Harvard University, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Peace Research Institute of Oslo (PRIO), Wuhan University, KIMEP University, and Université Grenoble-Alpes.
